One of the inescapable determinations in choosing a place to live and work is cost of living. Compared to the rest of the country, Crawfordsville's cost of living is 22.80% lower than the U.S. average. Median home costs are $113,480 in Montgomery County and housing choices include a broad assortment, from century old Victorian homes with unique character to new neighborhoods with all the amenities and everything in between.

History and Culture
Walk back in history with a walk through downtown. Founded in 1834, Crawfordsville boasts several museums, cafés, unique shops and gorgeous historical buildings featuring Victorian and Queen Anne architecture. Local museums include the General Lew Wallace Study (Civil War General and author of Ben Hur), Henry S. Lane Antebellum Mansion and the only working rotary jail in the country at the Old Jail Museum.

Just outside of town is the Ropkey Armour Museum featuring WWII armored vehicles and tanks and the historic Linden Railroad Museum with the oldest intact junction depot in the state.

Recreation
From hiking trails at one of the nearby state parks, to day long canoe trips down Sugar Creek, to competitive ASA softball tournaments, Crawfordsville and Montgomery County have enough to keep residents busy in their free time. Golfers enjoy 4 challenging golf courses within 20 minutes drive. Those who like to bait a hook will appreciate the fishing opportunities at nearby lakes, creeks and streams. And for brisk morning walks or afternoon jogs, the rails to trails Sugar Creek Trail is a beautiful pathway stretching for miles through scenic terrain.

Edcuational Opportunities
From an educational perspective, Montgomery County is home to 3 school districts with 17 schools and outstanding facilities. The student to teacher ratio averages 17 to 1.

For continuing education, Ivy Tech Community College, offers classes in Crawfordsville and at its nearby Lafayette campus. Purdue University, one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country, is just 30 minutes away and Wabash College, with its beautiful campus, graces Crawfordsville’s west side.
